WELCOME!

Welcome to Mrs. Harrison's 4th Grade Class at Abney Elementary! I am so glad you're going to be a part of our class this year! School starts on August 3rd- I can't wait to see you!

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

Please check your child in the mornings before coming to school for temps and symptoms per the CDC.  If your child shows any symptoms, please keep him/her home. School starts at 8:00am, and drop off starts at 7:25am.  Parents must stay in their cars and go through the line this year.  It can be long in the mornings, so please arrive early.  Dismissal begins at 2:20 normally, however, the first two weeks of school, dismissal will begin around 1:45 for car riders, and we anticipate the buses to be leaving the school by 2:00.

SEESAW

We will use SeeSaw in our class this year.  Please download the SeeSaw Family app on your phone and connect with the code that will be sent home with your child the first week.  You will be able to see your child's work, get pictures from our class, and get notes/reminders from me.

If we have any behavior issues in class, I will contact you via phone, email, or message on SeeSaw.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!

SNACK AND WATER BOTTLES

Please have your child to bring a water bottle and snack each day. Students will be allowed to refill their water bottles as needed instead of drinking from the water fountains.  Snack should be something that can easily be eaten while doing work.  Items that require spoons (fruit cups, yogurt, etc.) should be saved for lunch time.

BREAKFAST/LUNCH/RECESS

Across the school we are working to facilitate Social Distancing.  At this time, breakfast and lunch will be eaten in the homeroom classroom with the teacher. Students will check in with their homeroom teacher in the mornings before reporting to the cafeteria to pick up breakfast, and then return to classroom to eat.  Students will go through the lunchroom line with their teacher and return to the classroom to eat lunch.

Recess will also be different this year. We are going to work hard to make sure students do not congregate on the playground, blacktop, or wherever they may be during recess time.  Please remember that students may not receive outside recess every day.

VISITORS AND OUTSIDE FOOD

The County is requesting that no adults other than staff enter the building.  This is for the safety of our students and staff.  This includes our volunteers, PTA, parents that walk students to class, and those that eat lunch with students.  No visitors will be allowed.  We promise to have enough staff on hand to get each student safely to their classroom.

In addition, no outside food will be allowed to be brought into the building.  This includes birthday celebrations. No food items or goodie bags may be brought in for any type of celebration.  Lunchboxes, of course, are allowed but no additional items such as cupcakes and food from restaurants.  We will also not be accepting items that a child may leave at home to be dropped off throughout the day.  Please make sure your child has their belongings before leaving home.  If a student were to leave a lunchbox at home, we will make sure that the student receives lunch from the cafeteria.

ABOUT MRS. HARRISON

Hello!  This is my 16th year teaching, and fifth year at Abney Elementary.  I love building relationships and seeing the growth of my students each year.  I have a Bachelor's Degree from University North Georgia and a Master's Degree from Kennesaw State University.  I also have a gifted endorsement and reading endorsement.

My husband and I have been married for 14 years. We have two sons who are 10 and 7, and we love watching them play lacrosse. We also enjoy traveling, spending time with family, and watching Georgia Bulldogs football- Go Dawgs!  We just got a Mini Goldendoodle puppy in May, and she is a lot of fun.

I cannot wait to meet my students; it's going to be a great year!  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!
